The Leaf

On the tallest branch

a leaf trembles

larger than the rest

I realize it is not the same

 

Blown from some other

taller tree

within the silent still

it is different and alone

 

Across the way

its sisters

brothers

blow freely as one

 

I glance back

a moment passes

until I see the silence

the stillness

of what once blew

before it trembled

that lonesome other leaf
